This memorial designed by artist Charles Keck in the early twentieth century evokes the atmosphere of ancient Greece, perfect for stately weddings or historic themed weddings. Swope Park is built on a hill and the Swope memorial overlooks the lagoon and entire park. The memorial is a U-shaped colonnade in the Greek Doric style with twelve massive fall columns supporting an entablature. Eight bronze medallions are mounted on this backdrop, each representing and honoring a species of tree found in the park. Strewn on top of the colonnade is a decorative lantern with carved lion heads and feet, all resting upon a stone court with eight stone stairs leading up to the court. Imagine saying your vows on the large gray steps with two recumbent guardian stone lions and urns poised on either side of the stage. The bubbling fountain in front of this splendid memorial will elevate the ancient Greek atmosphere and make you look and feel like a regal goddess on your special day.
